Getting to Cancún from Outside Mexico

The best and quickest way to get to Cancún is by air to the Cancún International Airpot (CUN). This is point of entry referred to as “Mundo Maya” (Mayan World) which includes, in addition to Cancún, the popular vacation destinations of Playa Del Carmen and Riviera Maya.

There are direct daily flights to the Cancún International Airport by major international airports as well as chartered flights during peak vacation season. This airport is the most convenient point of entry to Cancún and “Mundo Maya” from nearly every major city in the world. It features world-class shops, restaurants, and other services.

The airport has 3 terminals that are close together: the International terminal, the Domestic (FBO) terminal, and the Cargo terminal. The 3 terminals are closely located to each other and a free taxi mini-van can be taken between these terminals.

Get From the Airport to Resort or Hotel

If you are traveling as part of an all-inclusive package then the tour or resort representative will be at the airport ready to greet you. You will exit the terminal and outside you will see tour reps and hotel transportation mini-vans with large signs so you know which one to approach.

If you are traveling on your own and not part of a package, you should confirm with your hotel or resort if they can pick you up from the airport. Most have mini-van transportation to and from the airport. If not, then you can take a taxi or bus. Depending on how far you are going, taxi can get pricier the further away your hotel is. A bus is very economical and can take you as far as Tulum.

Word of caution: Make sure to double-check that you removed all of your belongings from the taxi, bus, or mini-van. Items that can easily be missed are small purses, wallets, mobile devices, etc. Give a good check before closing the door behind you.
